Lakki games open LAKKI MARWAT, April 23: A javelin competition was held in Serai Gambila here on Saturday to promote peace through games and healthy activities.

DCO, Lakki Marwat, Mohammad Ayyaz Mandokhel, opened the traditional sports event in the presence of a large number of people.

As many as sixteen local and non-local spearmen on horsebacks participated in the competition and displayed their skills of tilting, receiving cheers from the crowd.

A charming and attractive dance of horses on drumbeats was also presented to make the event more splendid and flourishing.

Ustad Ali Abbas Khan of Bannu stood first in javelin competition while Haji Mohammad Rahim of Naser Din Begukhel and Mohammad Rehman of Naurang secured second and third positions, respectively.

DCO Mandokhel distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winners and appreciated the village committee for holding the event. —Correspondent

Two shot dead MARDAN, April 23: A man shot dead his sister-in-law and her alleged paramour here on Saturday, police said.

The preliminary investigations suggested it was an honor killing. Jamsheed gunned down his brother’s wife Nasreen and a man, Fayaz, after finding them in his brother’s home in Jala locality of Takht Bahi.

The Shergar police registered an FIR against Jamsheed on the complaint of Fayaz’s brother. The accused, however, fled the scene.

Meanwhile, a woman and her 11-year-old daughter were found mysteriously dead in their home in Kaskoroona area on Saturday, police said.

The Par Hoti police quoted Javed, the husband of the woman, as saying he found his wife and daughter dead on their beds when he woke up on Saturday morning. He said, they had eaten edibles a day earlier, after which he was also not feeling well. —Correspondent Arms seized

KOHAT, April 23: The police on Saturday seized arms and ammunition being smuggled to Punjab near Kohat Tunnel toll plaza.

A car (AKH-865), coming from tribal Darra Adam Khel via Lakki Marwat district, was stopped at the toll plaza for checking by a police team. The police found three sten guns, two repeaters of 12 bore, 47 magazines and 1,400 cartridges of 30 bore pistols. —Correspondent Differences in ANP KARAK, April 23: MPA Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel has said differences in the ranks of Awami National Party in Karak would harm the party’s interests.

Speaking at a ceremony held here on Saturday to kick off membership drive of the party, he said presently the party was divided into three groups in the district. He said the designs of some elements to occupy the party’s district office through fake membership of members would be foiled.

The MPA said differences would hamper the party’s membership drive. He said the ANP-led government had decided in principle to enhance royalty of oil and gas up to 15 per cent from 5 per cent for development of Karak district.

LAKKI MARWAT, April 23: The role of government officials in removing backwardness and resolving people’s problems is important as they have the capabilities to streamline the developmental activities, said Jehangir Saifullah Khan, the chief executive of Saif Group of Companies on Saturday.

Speaking at a reception he hosted in honour of the heads of line departments in Ghaznikhel, he said concerted efforts by all stakeholders could help achieve the goals of development and progress. The participants informed the SGoC chief executive about the efforts the line departments made for the uplift of the district.

Mr Jehangir said government officials, elders, political elite, youths and experts from private sector should forge unity and devise a comprehensive plan with mutual consultation for development of the backward district. “We should focus on education as it produces skilled manpower and educated youths”.—Correspondent Official booked

HARIPUR, April 23: The anti-corruption authorities here on Saturday arrested an official of revenue department for allegedly taking gratification from a farmer. The official was booked under section 161/52 of the Prohibition of Corruption Law.

The anti-corruption officials at Haripur police station quoted Mir Afzal Khan of village Bagra as saying an official, namely Sajid Hussain, at the sub-office Kanongo (SOK) demanded bribe for issuing record of his ancestral land. The complainant said he paid several visits to the office but failed to get the desired record.

The police officials, after obtaining arrest warrant from the judicial magistrate, raided the SOK and arrested Sajid. A criminal case was registered against him. —Correspondent Water shortage

MINGORA, April 23: The boarder students of Girls College Saidu Sharif are on a boycott of classes for the last three days due to non-availability of water at the hostel.

About 150 girl students at the hostel are suffering due to non-availability of water.

They said they were striving even for drinking water and the hostel administration was least bothered to overcome the problem.
