KARACHI, Feb 21: Two people were killed in as many incidents of cash and motorcycle snatching in Gulshan Town on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, a young motorcyclist was intercepted by unidentified armed men at a level crossing in Block 13-D of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The police said that the armed men tried to snatch the bike from 27-year-old Mamraiz and upon his resistance they fired at him, snatched the motorcycle and fled.

The victim sustained bullet wounds and was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he died during treatment. The body was moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

The victim was a resident of New Sabzi Mandi on the Superhighway, the police said.

The duty officer at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station said that the FIR of the case was yet to be registered as the family was busy in the funeral of the victim.

In the second such incident, armed criminals shot dead a young man when he resisted a cash snatching bid near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday, police said.

Gulshan SSP Naeem Shaikh said that the victim, 30-year-old Siddiqi had drawn Rs115,000 from a bank branch in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. As he reached near Kamran Chowrangi, three armed men on motorcycles, who were apparently chasing him from the bank, intercepted him and demanded the cash. They opened fire on him when he offered resistance, snatched the cash and escaped.

The police said that the wounded man was rushed to the Liaquat National Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Till the filing of this report, the FIR pertaining to the incident was yet to be registered.

'Gangster' shot dead in Pak Colony A suspected gangster was shot dead and his two associates wounded when unidentified persons opened fire on them at Jehanabad Chowk within the remit of the Pak Colony police station on Monday.

A duty officer at the Pak Colony police station said that Wali Mohammad was killed in the firing while his associates, Fareed and Mohammad Hasan, were wounded in the firing.

Following the incident the wounded and body were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi by the police.

The police said that initial investigations suggested that the attackers belonged to a gang and it was suspected that those who were attacked belonged to the rival group. Tension gripped the Jehanabad area where shopkeepers were forced to pull down their shutters.

Child burnt to death A child was burnt to death in a house in New Karachi's Sector 11-E early Monday morning, police said.

They said that the incident occurred within the remit of the Sir Syed police station.

“The incident occurred when five-year-old Hamza was playing with a matchbox while sitting on his bed. As there was no elder in the room, the bed caught fire and the child suffered burn injures,” DSP Altaf Husain said.

The little boy was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died, the police said, adding that the child was living with his parents in the same area in New Karachi, but he was at the house of his maternal grandmother where the incident occurred.
