QUETTA, Dec 28: A woman was killed and four other people were injured when Levies personnel and robbers exchanged fire near Kalat on Tuesday. According to sources, a robber disguised as a passenger boarded a bus between Mastung and Quetta and looted the passengers at gunpoint near Kalat.

Meanwhile, robbers stopped other buses and coaches and deprived passengers of their valuables.

Source said the woman onboard a Karachi-bound bus was killed and four people were injured when a Levies patrol reached the place and traded fire with the highwaymen.

Transporters blamed the Levies personnel for the death of woman, who was later identified as Fouzia, saying the robbers had escaped the scene before the firing started.

The transporters blocked the highway in protest, suspending traffic between Quetta and Karachi for several hours.

The road was reopened after the administration assured them that compensation would be paid to the relatives of woman and security would be enhanced on the highway. —Staff Correspondent
