KARACHI: BIEK teams to check students’ attendance
KARACHI, Sept 3: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has decided to set up 18 teams — one for each town of the metropolis — to monitor attendance of HSC students in colleges with a view to ensuring compliance of the 75 per cent attendance condition, set for eligibility to appear in the board examinations.
BIEK chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said here on Wednesday that the proposed teams would comprise retired professors and former senior board officials. They teams would visit colleges on the 10th of every month to verify attendance of students.
He noted that although it was mandatory upon all colleges to send their students’ attendance record to the Board on a monthly basis, only a few colleges were complying with the order.
About the board’s plan to change the pattern of HSC Part-I examination papers from 2009, he said that the board had sought cooperation of the EDLINK, a subsidiary of donor agencies, in this regard. The organisation would assist the BIEK in framing model papers and an evaluation method, he said.—Staff Reporter
