MC names Attique as AJK PM

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, July 14: The Muslim Conference parliamentary party has nominated Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan as its candidate as prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The election is likely to be held on July 24.

Sardar Attique’s name was proposed by MC’s MLAs-elect through a resolution presented at a meeting of the parliamentary party the other day.

On Friday, the AJK election commission also announced a schedule for election against eight special seats of the assembly, five of which are reserved for women and one each for technocrats, religious scholars and overseas Kashmiris.

According to AJK election commissioner Shaikh Mohammad Naseem, nomination papers for the seats would be filed on July 18 and polling would be held on July 22 in the AJK legislative assembly building.

He said the official notification of election of 40 MLAs would be issued on Saturday and added that re-polling in one constituency (LA-33 Jammu and others IV), which was cancelled by the relevant returning officer after complaints of rigging, would be held on July 17.
