LAHORE, May 4: Pakistan baseball captain Nabeel Ahmed Rana sees a bright future for the sport in Pakistan after his team qualified for the Asian championship by winning the Asia Cup in Rawalpindi last week.

Talking to Dawn, Nabeel said that Pakistan joined the elite club of six countries of Asia after a historic win and it would further generate the interest for theyoungsters.

Pakistan will be competing with top teams of Asia including China, Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Taiwan in the Asian championship to be held in Taiwan later this year.

Pakistan also qualified for the Asian Games to be held in Doha, Qatar in Dec this year.

He said that the main reason for the achievement was because the game was similar to cricket and the boys had been adjusting easily.

Nabeel pointed out that the Pakistan Baseball Federation was trying to enter Pakistan in the minor league of USA and if it succeeded the boys would get best opportunity to improve their game before the two Asian competitions.
