ISLAMABAD, May 30: The 42nd anniversary of Africa Day will be observed this year on June 25, according to a press release. The day marks the founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963.

Heads of African diplomatic missions in Pakistan have recalled the support accorded to their continent during its liberation struggle by Pakistan. They have especially praised the country’s role in peacekeeping operations in different parts of Africa.

The OAU was renamed the African Union in 1999 following the end of colonization and now has a membership of 53 countries.
