157 survive plane crash

TEHRAN, April 21: An Iranian plane carrying 157 passengers crash landed and caught fire at Tehran’s main airport on Wednesday night causing some injuries but no deaths, Iran state television said. Earlier Dubai-based Al Arabiya television quoted Iranian state television as saying 50 people had been killed in a plane crash at Tehran airport.

The Boeing 707 plane, travelling from the Gulf island of Kish, poured out smoke and then flames shortly after landing, Iran state television said.

“For unknown reasons it crashed into the river just before the runway,” Reza Jafarzadeh, spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, told television. “Up to now there have been no reports of fatalities and

just one child is missing,” he added.

The plane was operated by Saha Airlines — a commercial service owned by Iran’s armed forces.—Reuters
