Benazir to offer prayers in Ajmer

By Jawed Naqvi

NEW DELHI, March 22: Indian officials were tight-lipped about reports on Tuesday that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Zardari would visit Ajmer to offer prayers at the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti this week. Pakistani diplomats said they were aware that Ms Bhutto might visit Ajmer on Wednesday with her husband, but claimed they were in the dark about the rest of her itinerary.

Mr Zardari was recently released from prison after spending several years in imprisonment and had rejoined his wife in Dubai.

There was speculation whether the couple would visit Bangalore too where India and Pakistan would be locked in the last of their three-match Test fixture from Thursday.

“There is nothing to say because it is a private visit,” a senior government official said.
