KARACHI: LEW affectees to get 2,900 plots in Baldia


KARACHI, Oct 3: The third phase of Lyari Expressway Project shiftees resettlement will start from Oct 15 at Baldia Town under the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project.

This was decided in a meeting of the project officials held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of project director. Meeting reviewed the ongoing development works at Baldia Town site and it was informed that these would be completed in the next eight weeks whereas construction of a grid station, a primary school and mini-civic centre has already been completed.

The meeting was informed that Baldia Town site is spread over 145 acres where 2,924 plots have been carved out for shiftees. The site will have six schools, two colleges, two mosques and eight parks and playgrounds, 21 locations for Awami Marakiz, two hospitals and dispensaries, one community centre and one vocational centre.

It was informed that concerned water and electricity departments are working on a fast track for the provision of these two basic utilities. The first phase of resettlement was started 18 months back at Hawkesbay which is nearing completion.

Hawkesbay resettlement site has 4,910 plots for shiftees out of which possession has been given to 4,643 families and among them 2,600 families have completed the construction of houses and living there while construction of the remaining houses is under way, meeting was informed.

Similarly, the resettlement of shiftees at the second site of Taisar Town is also going on at a fast pace. This site has a total number of 10,253 plots and so far, 4,500 families have taken possession. Of them, 2,700 families have completed the construction of their houses and 2,000 have shifted to their new abodes while the remaining families are busy in the construction of their houses. - APP
