Sarwar back in favour thanks to Oltmans

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 17: Pakistan hockey head coach Roelant Oltmans has succeeded in having inside-right Muhammad Sarwar get into the 18- member team announced on Monday for Olympic qualifying round to be held at Madrid, Spain from March 2 to 13.

Sarwar had decided to quit international hockey after he was denied a chance to play Champions Trophy last year and said at the time that he was doing so on the selectors' advice.

Oltmans had surprised everyone when he called up Sarwar for the national training camp for Madrid, which started on Feb 4, and later succeeded in getting approval from PHF for his inclusion in the camp. The team was picked from 22 probables.

Besides Qasim who was replaced by Sarwar, Sameer Husain (HBL), Abdul Aasim Khan (NBP) and Nasir Ahmad (Sindh) were dropped. In a related development, PHF once again named Col Muhammad Yousuf Baig as manager of the team, a post which the federation had abolished after it hired the services of Oltmans in December last. Yousuf had earlier been performing as doctor for the camp.
