LAHORE, Jan 2: Shaharyar M. Khan in his first major decision as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief fired marketing director Zahid Bashir on Friday.

Zahid has been relieved of his duties with one-month salary. The vacancy will be filled through advertisement and till such time chief executive, Ramiz Raja, will look after the affairs of the marketing department.

Zahid was the man, who signed the sponsorship deal with a private TV channel for live telecasting of five ODIs home series against New Zealand in December.

The deal made headlines after the first match of the series which was held at Lahore could not be telecast live due to rift between PTV and the private channel on the uplink rights. The matter was resolved after president Gen Pervez Musharraf personally intervened to settle the issue.
