Football suffers due to PFF’s attitude
LAHORE, Nov 6: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) high command seems to be least interested in solving matters of the federation making the game to suffer in this country.
PFF urgently needs an executive and general council meeting to decide about the future of the two foreign national coaches Jozef Herel for seniors and John Layton for juniors.
Both the coaches were appointed and paid by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to coach the senior and junior teams under its Aid 26 programme. But AFC had decided to scrap the programme from December, 2002.
AFC through a letter dated Oct 7, 2002 had intimated all the countries who are
being benefited through this programme about its decision.
The suspension of the programme is only for 2003 as this programme will be revived from 2004.
During 2003 AFC will check the accounts of the federations and if found clear a country will again be included in that programme.
Pakistan senior team has a hectic international programme ahead from Jan 10 next year to April 30 in which Saarc Gold Cup, Asia Cup and Olympic Games qualifying rounds and SAF Games will be held.
To prepare strong teams for these activities a training camp must be set up from right now. But no step can be taken before deciding the fate of the senior coach Herel.
The PFF president Mian Mohammad Azhar due to his political activities is not giving any time to solve these matters of the federation. His preoccupation is also not helping the cause of soccer in this country.
It was high time that the PFF officials wake up and take decisions especially of the two foreign coaches so that the game of soccer does not suffer.
