Provincial Nadra chief wounded in shooting

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Aug 9: The director-general of National Database and Registration Authority, Balochistan, Brigadier Bartar Hussain Naqvi, was wounded when unidentified assailants opened fire at his official car here on Friday.

He was taken to the Combined Military Hospital where sources said that the DG had received a bullet in his left shoulder. The bullet was removed through operation and his condition was out of danger, they added.

Brig Naqvi came under attack when he was on his way to the Nadra office situated on Zarghoon Road. One masked man fired six shots, of which one hit the brigadier.

The driver of the Nadra vehicle, Iqbal Niazi, escaped unhurt. As the firing started, the driver accelerated and drove away from the firing range. Five bullets hit the car.

The attackers then fled on a motorcycle, witnesses told the police officials when they arrived at the scene of the incident.

“We cannot say anything for the moment about the cause of firing on the DG,” a police officer said, adding that a team comprising senior police officials had been set up to investigate the incident.

Police have registered a case against unknown men and conducted raids. However, no arrest was reported.
