5 killed as jeep falls into ravine

MANSEHRA, May 12: At least five people were killed and four others injured when a jeep carrying them to attend the funeral prayers of a local fell into a deep ravine on Pattan Des road near Khaninan in Kaghan valley, about 105km from here on Saturday.

The injured have been admitted to the Ayub Medical College and Hospital Complex.

Nine people were travelling to Pattan Des Khanian from Mohandri to attend the funeral prayers of the mother of a shopkeeper Lal Hussain on jeep (DMR-1636).

The jeep while negotiating a sharp turn on Pattan Des road went out of control and plunged into a deep ravine. As a result, five people were killed on the spot while four others sustained injuries.

The deceased were identified as Miskeen, Naseer, Haji Khalid, Imtiaz and Nazir. The body of Naseer is still missing.

The injured persons include Mohammad Iqbal, driver of the jeep, Haji Afzal, Shakeel and Nawaz.
