Demonstration held for Aafia`s release

RAWALPINDI, Feb 14 Anjuman Talaba Islam (ATI) Rawalpindi chapter on Sunday staged a demonstration outside Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club (RIPC) for the early release of Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

ATI also criticised the federal government for not taking interest in Dr Aafia case in US and urged them to speed up diplomatic efforts for the release of the daughter of the nation Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the illegal detention of America.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of Dr Aafia and against US jury.

Speaking on the occasion, ATI leaders said the verdict of the US court was itself terrorism of its own kind, as an innocent woman had been declared guilty for what she never committed.

They said the verdict against Dr Aafia had proved that justice was not valued in the American society as well as legal system.

“It is the failure of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi besides other Foreign Office officials that the US court gave guilty verdict against innocent Pakistani national,” they said.
