THIS refers to the letter by S.M.H. Rizvi ‘Why is KCR being considered again?’ (Dec 23). In fact, his two suggestions, which boil down to the following, make a lot of practical sense: construction of subways from the Cantonment Station, Saddar, and Tower and then its extension all the way up to North Karachi and Sohrab Goth; and utilisation of the wide central median space for planning BRT.

I may mention that I have been living in Montreal for the last more than 35 years and use its public transportation system, including metros and buses, quite regularly. I find Montreal’s public transport system smooth and efficient. My suggestion, therefore, is that let an international consortium of transport planners work on the planning phase of Karachi public transport and then recommend practical proposals for consideration of the Pakistan government and then its ultimate implementation.
