KARACHI, Dec 4: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has banned installation and relocation of signboards, billboards and hoardings in the city and linked the issuance of a no-objection certificate for the purpose with the approval of technical services and transport and communication officials.

While chairing a meeting in his office on Tuesday, KMC Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed issued directive to the officials concerned to immediately remove all signboards from signal-free corridors other than the auctioned hoardings on Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-i-Pakistan and Shahrah-i-Quaideen.

He said the image of city was being ruined due to random and unsystematic installation of signboards, whereas people were facing difficulties and inconvenience due to huge billboards on streets.Henceforth the issuance of NoC for signboards would be linked with the approval from technical services director general and senior director of transport and communication department, he said.

After reconstruction, he said, Shahrah-i-Quaideen would become the city’s widest corridor with four lanes at each side. Construction of storm drain with RCC covering had made this corridor the widest in the city, he added.
