KARACHI, Nov 4: A local leader of the Awami National Party was gunned down in the city on Sunday, police and party sources said.

The police added that the victim had been kidnapped before being shot dead in Gulshan-i-Maymar.

The body bearing torture marks and gunshot wounds was found in the graveyard, said a duty officer of the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station.

He said that the victim was later identified as Fazal-i-Rabi, 38, president of the ANP Zareena Colony ward, district central.

The victim had been kidnapped sometime late Saturday night and his body was spotted on Sunday morning, the official said.

The police later shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Tension gripped the locality following the killing and additional contingent of police was deployed in the area to avert violence.

While speaking at a press conference on Sunday night, Senator Shahi Syed condemned the killing Fazal-i-Rabi and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the targeted killing. Sen Syed said that a number of party workers and leaders had been killed in targeted attacks in the city since Eidul Azha.
