RCB revamping its image

RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: In order to be more people friendly, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) will hire services of women, to run its complaint centre, next month onwards.

While talking to Dawn, RCB Cantonment Executive Officer, Rana Manzoor Ahmed Khan said that the RCB would start its complaint centre — which was constructed last year — next month.

He said that RCB decided to hire the services of 12 women to run the complaint centre. The action is double-edged: not only will it give a friendly image but will also deter corruption.

“In the past, interaction with the public was not well defined and touts or agents used to fleece the public which earned a bad name for the RCB,” he said.

He said that the aim of the complaint centre was to help the residents to get birth certificates, approval of building plans, transfer of land, sanitation and property tax, water shortage, sanitation complaints etc.  Funds to the amount of Rs40 million were spent on construction of a building, in front of the Cantonment Public Library.

Two women would be recruited on Scale 16, eight on Scale 14, besides two computer operators. Advertisements would be published in the press inviting applications, he said.

The official said the centre would cover seven sections: building, land, water, sanitation, house tax, commercial property and other taxes.

The staff would receive applications, give receipts and resolve the case within a week, he said.
