KARACHI: Pakistan's women team lost their opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 by a massive margin of 43 runs to England on Thursday in Galle, Sri Lanka.

Pakistan captain Sana Mir won the toss and elected to field. England posted 50 runs in just six overs, going on to post a strong total of 133 runs for the loss of six wickets. Captain Charlotte Edwards hit 45 off 43 balls and Laura Marsh scored a career-best 54 runs off 41 balls before both were  run out.

Pakistan bowled well in the last few overs to take five wickets for 20 runs with Mir taking two wickets for 20 runs while Sadia Yousuf and Nida Rashid took one wicket each.

Pakistan were bowled out for just 90 runs in the 20th over with Qanita Jalil and Javeria Khan the highest scorers with 14 and 25 runs respectively. Holly Colvin took 4-9 while Danielle Hazell dismissed two.

Pakistan next face the defending champions Australia on Saturday, September 29 in a must-win match to stay in the tournament while England play India.
