LAHORE: PPP Punjab president Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and former senior minister and PPP leader Raja Riaz on Tuesday said the Pakistan People's Party would play the role of active opposition in the Punjab Assembly, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Punjab Assembly, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and Raja Riaz said they would highlight people's problems in the assembly and would bring up the issues of governance and law and order in the province.

Raja Riaz said the PPP would play a positive role even as an opposition party.

Moreover, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz owed its presence in the assemblies to President Asif Ali Zardari who had convinced Nawaz Sharif to have the PML-N stand in the elections.

The statements come a day after seven PPP ministers were formally removed from the provincial cabinet after Punjab Governor Latif Khosa signed the advice sent to him by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the matter.
