PESHAWAR: Employees of Pakistan Railways have refused to do additional duties unless they are given overtime allowance.

Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Pakistan Railways Employees (PREM) Union president Hafiz Salman Butt said that the government had started running new trains, but it failed to recruit the required staff.

Flanked by the union’s vice-president Daudur Rehman and divisional president Meher Ali, Mr Butt revealed that the government was yet to install the communication system at the railways crossings.

He said that the employees were forced to be present for 12 hours on duty instead of eight hours, adding that no overtime allowance was given to them. The PREM union chief warned to announce train march and start observing sit-in protests if their demand for overtime allowance was not accepted.
