RAWALPINDI: A 55-year-old man was allegedly killed after he tried to stop three people from cutting a tree on his land in the Haryal village of Mandra.

The deceased was identified as Chaudhry Qurban, spouse of Mehfooz Bibi, a PML-N councillor from Jhangi Jalal Union Council.

Mehrban Hussain lodged a complaint with the Mandra police in which he stated that he and his brother Chaudhry Qurban Hussain and sons Qasim and Adnan reached their land and saw Qurban Shah, Rizwan and Naheem felling a polar tree with axes.

When Mr Qurban tried to stop the three people, they attacked him.

He said Naheem hit Mr Qurban in the head with an axe and escaped.

Mehrban said he and his sons tried to shift the critically injured to the hospital but he died on the way to the hospital.

On the complaint of Mehrban, police registered a murder case against the suspects and started an investigation. No arrest had so far been made.

SHO Mandra Sardar Zulfiqar told Dawn that it was yet to be ascertained by doctors how the man died. He said the deceased was a heart patient and had received a stent.

“During initial examination conducted by doctors, a small injury was found in the right eye of the deceased,” he said. The SHO said the actual cause of the death would only be ascertained after the medico-legal report is received.
