KARACHI: A 30-year-old man was beaten to death by the driver and conductor of a minibus in Bahadurabad on Tuesday when the passenger argued with them over bus fare, police said.
The bus driver and conductor have been taken into custody.
The police added that the deceased identified as Abdul Rahman argued with bus conductor Umar Khan of route X-23 over fare when the vehicle was standing near the Bahadurabad roundabout.
The bus driver, Arif Nawaz, intervened and the heated debated turned into a brawl, with the two badly thrashing Abdul Rahman.
The bus conductor was also injured in the fight, the police added. “Rahman sustained serious head injuries which suggested that he was hit on the head multiple times with some heavy metal instrument,” said inspector Qamar Zeb Satti, the SHO of the SITE B police station.
“The brawl in Bahadurabad left Abdul Rahman unconscious and conductor Umar Khan injured. The driver panicked and asked other passengers to get out of the vehicle so he could take him to hospital. The driver brought the two injured to Metroville to shift them in a charity organisation’s ambulance.”
The driver, the SHO said, was nervous and used the charity’s ambulance to avoid his involvement in transporting them to hospital.
The area police was informed by the charity workers about the injured. The police detained the bus driver. The police later also arrested the bus conductor after he was released by the hospital following treatment, he added. The deceased was associated with a private security company.

Very sad incident.
Arguments between Bus Conductors and passengers is a routine in Pakistan due to failure of implementation of rules. Every bus conductor/driver is free to make his own rules because there is no one to ask him. The ruling authorities are either busy somewhere else or common people are not important for them.

This is high time that we look into the affairs of the public transport and its operators. The city lack public transport and unregistered/irregular service providers are totally unruly. Traffic Police turns a blind eye to vehicle's poor condition, reckless driving, unplanned stops, permits, driver's license etc. Same applies to the taxis and rickshaws. It is time that the Sindh Government Transport Authority to wake up and look into the issue seriously.

The driver and conductor should be sentenced heavily by the court. We are all inflation striken and to speak out loud about it is the most right thing to do! These complaints should be dealt in a more educated and civilized way by the government or private companies.

This reminded me the old memories of 80s when the bus conductors used to make "murgha" and beat the passengers when anyone protests against long waiting at Nazimabad Chowrangi .The bus routes 2, 2K etc used to start from Paposhnagar and then they wait at the chwrangi No.! for the next bust which usually take 30 minutes and the passengers mostly middle class, educated were face such treatments from drivers and conductors .Driver used to go back to starting point and used gear rods for beating them and making them Murgha sometimes because they were bodily strong.The reaction from passenger's children was the formation of MQM and then they tamed these drivers and conductors very effectively.

Habits of people havr changed, people are more impatient these days , everybody seems in hurry and in stress , I myself get out of control sometime on very little things and then brawl starts , sometime they punch me hard and sometimes I punch them hard

@Salim .Absolutely. And often the bus driver & conductor in collusion with pick pocketters at the time of rush deprive passengers their wallet & cell phone. Besides they also in collusion with street looters deprive an old age passenger. Transport Mafia and related crimes are continuing in well organized way. And Sindh Govt is absolutely helpless.

There is a mafia behind the private transport system in Karachi run by the influentials under the police cover and they employ ghundas to control the transport managenent and the result is a poor person died due to absence of muncipality managed transport system as found in any city of the world.
