Pakistan summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh on Monday to lodge protest against the death of an 8-year-old girl in Kashmir as a result of ceasefire violations by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).

A statement issued by the Foreign Office said that Momina, 8, was killed in the Chirikot Sector after unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces on September 2.

Indian forces continue to violate the ceasefire despite calls for restraint, the statement said; they have carried out more than 700 violations along the LoC and the Working Boundary this year alone, killing 30 people and injuring 113. The number of violations by India in 2016 was 382.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians was deplorable, and against human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws," the statement said.

The Foreign Office’s director general for South Asia and Saarc, Dr Mohammad Faisal, urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit, and investigate violations to maintain peace along the LoC.

India should allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role according to the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, he said.
