LAHORE: A Lahore High Court full bench on Monday warned authorities at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan that they will be sent to jail if students of the disputed sub-campus in Lahore were not issued degrees.

Taking strict notice of the complaints lodged by students, the bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi directed the BZU vice chancellor and registrar present in the court to address the grievances of students by next hearing or be ready to face imprisonment. The bench adjourned hearing till March 6.

On the previous hearing, the bench had issued an interim order directing the BZU management to issue degrees and No-Objection Certificates to students who had passed their examinations from the Lahore sub-campus.

On Monday, counsel of the students told the bench that the order had not been complied with so far.

Thousands of students had filed petitions challenging non-recognition and non-issuance of their degrees.
