SAHIWAL: Theatre play Heer Ranjha and Punjabi mushaira were held here as a part of the cultural festival being held in connection with the International Mother Language Day

The COMSATS University hosted the mushaira while Government Postgraduate College hosted a theatre play. Various organisations and educational institutes are collaborating to hold this five-day festival that started on Thursday and would continue until the mother language day (Feb 21).

About 15 Punjabi poets recited their poetry that in three-and-a-half hours mushaira. They included Baba Najmi and Parveen Sajal (Lahore), Rai Muhammad Khan Nasir (Nankana Sahib), Sabir Ali Sabir (Kasur), Baba Gulam Hussain Nadeem (Samundari), Murli Chohan (Sheikhupura), Naseer Baloch (Jhang), Anjum Saleemi (Faisalabad), Wasif Abbas Safi (Kasowal), Waheed Raza Ijaz (Khanewal) and Mushtaq Adil and Talib Jatoi (Sahiwal). The event was hosted by Afzal Sahir.

The theatre play, Heer Ranjha, by Lahore-based group, Sangat, was held at the Government Post Graduate College Sahiwal. The play was directed by Huma Safdar who said she had selected more than 200 stanzas from Heer Waris Shah to run the whole story. Uzma Ali, Ali Sher, Neha Shafqat and Naeem Ansari were among the main actors.
