Inspector General Sindh AD Khawaja on Wednesday issued instructions to all concerned departments and officials to immediately improve upon the traffic situation in the metropolis on an emergency basis following days of traffic congestion which has created severe issues for commuters.

Khawaja instructed DIG Traffic and AIG Karachi to conduct a detailed road and traffic survey in order to draw up a workable traffic management plan.

The province's top police official asked the concerned police officials to submit a detailed report on the reasons and solutions for improving the flow of traffic on the main arteries of the city, and those routes which are frequently used by commuters.

He also instructed the relevant officials to deploy police and traffic police officials on U-turns, crossings and signals across the city's congested traffic zones to improve the flow of traffic.

Khawaja also said during the meeting to strictly enforce traffic laws and to ensure that heavy vehicles follow the times at which they can ply on the metropolis' roads.

The IG instructed officials to also factor in the development work and road situation in the survey which is to be conducted, and to ensure provision of alternate routes to commuters.

Referring to illegal parking and encroachments, he instructed Station House Officers and Section Officers to ensure clearance of routes from such obstructions.
