KOHAT: The district council through a unanimous resolution on Thursday demanded of the provincial government to cancel all recent appointments and transfers made in the health and education departments.

The council’s session was held with naib nazim Abdur Rasheed as convener and attended by district nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad and councillors.

It also demanded strict action against those officials who were involved in the said appointments and postings.

In another resolution the house challenged the utilization of sports fund.

Speaking on the occasion, the district nazim asked the members to point out real issues because they had been given mandate for the service of people.

On the traffic plan, Mr Niaz claimed that the district police officer and he would soon devise a new plan and said that he had lifted red zone restriction keeping in view problems being faced by the people.

The house formed a seven-member committee to investigate and pursue the appointments and postings issue. Opposition leader Naseem Afridi, Dr Matiullah and Mohammad Faheem also took part in the debate.

HASHISH SEIZED: Jarma police seized 23 kilogrammes of hashish from a car on the Indus Highway and arrested an alleged smuggler on Thursday.

The police stopped a car (No 6929) which was going to Bannu from Peshawar and on its checking they found 23 kilogrammes of hashish hidden in its oil tank.

The alleged smuggler, Mashroob Khan, a resident of Khyber Agency, was also arrested. The police took his physical remand for further investigations after registration of the case.

Meanwhile, the police busted a gang of swindlers who deprived a man of his car and belongings by giving him fake currency on Thursday. The police said that Mohammad Naeem, Mohammad Jalil of Kohat and Ahmedullah of Hangu bought a pickup from one Hussain Shah allegedly on payment of fake Rs1.9 million. However, the victim informed the police about the whole episode.

The cantonment police shifted the accused to the police station where they admitted that they had bought the fake currency from Darra Adamkhel.

The police have registered the case.
