KARACHI: Fancied Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) put up resolute performance routing the Higher Education Commission (HEC) straight in the one-sided final to retain their title in the National Women’s Volleyball Championship which concluded at the KPT Sports Complex on Sunday.

Led by Madiha Lateef, Wapda brushed aside HEC 25-15, 25-12, 25-13 in the repeat final not only to retain the crown but win for an overall 12th time.

“Wapda has monopolised the title since inception of the event in 2002 and this was their 12th straight triumph,” coach of the victorious team Mohammad Aslam told Dawn after the victory.

The last event was held in 2013 at Islamabad.

The coach identified skipper Madiha, Samia, Asma, Bisma and Shabana Kauser as outstanding in the competition.

Earlier, Punjab cruised to straight 25-6, 25-16, 25-8 victory over hosts Sindh in the playoff to retain third place.

The quartet of Wapda, HEC, Punjab and Sindh finished in the same order in the last edition.

Sindh was awarded the Fair Play trophy.
