BERLIN: Newly-promoted RB Leipzig were the only Bundesliga team to suffer a shock defeat in the first round of the German Cup on Saturday.

Leipzig, sponsored by energy drink giants Red Bull, will make their debut in Germany’s top flight when the new season starts next weekend.

But they were dumped out of the cup by neighbours and rivals Dynamo Dresden on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Second-division Dresden came from 2-0 down at home to take the game to extra-time as Stefan Kutschke scored twice before Dresden goalkeeper Marvin Schwaebe saved a spot kick as the home side won 5-4 on penalties.
