FAISALABAD: A man suspected of double murder allegedly committed suicide to avoid arrest when police surrounded him in Chak 466-GB, Samundri, on Friday.

Akbar, 35, of Chak 466-GB, had gunned down his mother Rafiqan Bibi, 50, and brother Abdul Salam, 25, four days ago over a domestic dispute.

On Friday, police besieged the fields in his village when they were informed by villagers that Akbar had been seen there. On seeing police, Akbar allegedly committed suicide to avoid arrest.

A double murder case was registered against Akbar on the complaint of his father, Boota.

kiln workers: Brick kiln workers along with their children staged a demonstration and a sit-in outside the DCO office on Friday demanding the issue of social security cards for them and scholarships for their children.

The protest, by the Labour Qaumi Movement, was first held at the District Council Chowk and later at the DCO office gate.

With banners and placards inscribed with slogans, protestors chanted slogans against the executive district officer of education.

They told reporters they had approached the officials several times demanding books, uniform and scholarships for their children, but in vain.

They alleged the government discriminated against the kiln workers and their children.

After assurance by Labour Department officials that their issues would be resolved, protestors dispersed.
