RAWALPINDI: Two undertrial prisoners were injured when a group attacked them in Adiala jail on Thursday night.

Preliminary investigation by jail authorities suggested that some prisoners were sitting in the courtyard when a group of eight prisoners attacked two brothers, Jehangir and Ehsan, with a self-made knife, injuring both.

“Jehangir suffered a deep wound on the left side of his neck while his brother Ehsan received minor injuries,” an official of the prison department said.

He said the critically injured prisoner was given first aid at the jail hospital and later shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The situation was controlled by the additional security staff of the jail who apprehended the attackers and sent them to ‘punishment cells’.

The jail authorities launched an investigation into the incident and sent a report to the higher authorities.

A complaint against eight prisoners accused of attacking the two UTPs was also sent to the city police officer for registration of a case against the accused.

“We show zero tolerance to such incidents in prison as nobody will be allowed to violate rules,” the prison department official said.

Jehangir and Ehsan were arrested by Waris Khan police in 2014 for being involved in a murder case.
