LAHORE: A civil court has ordered to attach salary of the secretary education (schools) for non-compliance of the court orders.

Civil Judge Rai Ijaz Ahmad Imtiaz also issued a show-cause notice to the secretary education after providing him a number of opportunities for the compliance of an order regarding payment of compensation to a citizen whose property was obtained by the government on rent to establish a school.

The judge issued a letter to the Lahore district accounts officer for the attachment of the secretary’s salary and sought a compliance report to this effect by May 18.

The secretary education (Schools) lost a compensation case filed by Aleemuddin in 2006 through Khwaja Muhammad Ali advocate. The civil court had passed a decree amounting to payment of Rs548,472 to the plaintiff.

The government had challenged the decree before the Lahore High Court in 2012 but failed to get any relief.

Since then, the secretary education (schools) has not been responding to civil court notices to pay the amount despite the fact that a summary for payment was approved by the finance department.

FBR: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday restrained Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from tax selection of already audited industries and sought a detailed report from the board within two weeks.

Justice Shahid Jamil passed this order on a petition filed by a textile unit and suspended the impugned notification of the FBR regarding tax selection of the unit.

The petitioner’s counsel, Mohsin Virk, argued that the FBR had already carried out tax selection of his client (unit) 2011-13.

However, he said, the board again issued a notice to the petitioner for the tax selection for the same period.

He said the courts had already settled that the tax selection of already audited industries could not be held without any cogent reason.

The counsel asked the court to set aside the impugned notification for being illegal.

The judge suspended the notification and sought report from the board.
