Pakistan rise to third in ICC Test rankings after annual update

Pakistan moved up to the third position in the ICC Test Rankings, placed just below arch-rivals India with a difference of just a point while Australia went six points clear at the top, announced cricket’s global body on it’s website on Tuesday.
Pakistan benefitted from the annual update as their 2012-13 series defeat against South Africa no longer counts while the 2-0 loss to Sri Lanka in 2014-15 has it’s weighing reduced to half.
South Africa, though, have quite heavily suffered from the update as their series wins against England, Australia and New Zealand also dropped from the rankings calculation.
West Indies also dropped points as their triumphs against New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh lost any mathematical value.
The gap between the West Indies and ninth-ranked Bangladesh slashed from 29 points to just eight points.
Pakistan is set to visit England later this summer as they take on the hosts in a four-match Test series which will significantly impact the rankings again.
Sri Lanka will also tour England right before Pakistan to play three Test matches and will host Australia in July.

India are one of the weakest Test side's right now they are only good at fluke formats such as T20

@Rizwan Haider Why India comes in picture all the times? We have to compete with all test playing nations and NOT just India.We should look at our team first. Do u think we deserve t be 3rd in rankings without playing any tests for a while. This ranking system is flawed

@Rizwan Haider You forgot One day matches, the ranking is based on points and the system is very transparent. lets not get in to conspiracy theory here as well.

This is an ANNUAL ranking....meaning it is looking at 2015 performance in total

Nothing is flawless or perfect in this world. The ranking system considers performaces for a certain time period, old performances are excluded in annual updates. So any exclusion of a bad performace will result in ranking upgrade.

@khurram Khan , Have you even cared to look into ranking criteria? After a certain amount of time, ICC excludes whole year's results. Pakistan lost 3-0 against South Africa in South Africa and 2-0 against Sri Lanka hence when ICC excluded those results, Pakistan moved up. Same happened with India.

Really everyone in world cricket knows Pak is no1, y u think big 3 was created? Bearing in mind we cannot play at home, we ain't lost a series in UAE in tests, we dnt get enough matches against all nations, so u tell me who the real no1?

Notwithstanding the ICC's ranking juggernauts, we must do our own exercise on simple terms and get the ranking that should be visible on ground as well as in minds of the players. We must have highly disciplined and proudly presentable players in every respect.

it's weighed at 50% of results from the 2014 season. Hence the reason Pakistan's 2-0 loss to sri lanka is weighed at 50% and as well as pakistan's 2-0 over australia and their 1-1 drawn series in 2014. And as far as the 2015 season is concerned, all the results are weighed at 100%. Hence the reason pakistan are ranked third.
It's not really our fault that we've been playing most of our series in subcontinent conditions. So let's give credit where it's due. At the end of the day, pakistan hasn't lost a series for nearly two years, hence the reason we're ranked third.

I think the rating system should be re-calibrated to gradually weigh the older results out of calculation.

Pakistan will loose all 4 tests, all one days matches in England. I can not see them winning any matches. As for T20, well that is a lottery.
