GUJRAT: A team of the Wildlife Department got arrested two poachers and recovered from them two four-day fawns in Sanghoi area in Jhelum on Thursday.

A civil judge imposed a fine of Rs25,000 on the poacher who was driving the vehicle and sent the other poacher on a 14-day judicial remand.

The fawns recovered from the poachers were shifted to the Lahore Zoo by a Wildlife Department team.

Wildlife district officer Tanveer Janjua said a gang of poachers was active in the woods of Jalapur Sharif and Sangoi in Jhelum district.

“The gang catches the fawns and then sells each fawn for Rs20,000 to Rs30,000.”

He said the Wildlife teams had already recovered nine fawns in three different raids in April. He said the illegal trade of fawns carried a punishment of up to two years or a fine of Rs20,000 to Rs100,000 or both.
