LAHORE: Building students’ capacity to understand how they think and become ‘self-aware learners’ brings about marked and sustained improvement in their educational achievement, say academicians at the Pakistan Schools Conference organised by the Cambridge International Examinations here on Thursday.

The conference on ‘Learning how to learn’ was attended by more than 250 principals from over 100 Cambridge schools in Pakistan.

Michael O’Sullivan, Chief Executive, Cambridge International Examinations, said: “Research tells us that the self-aware learner is much better prepared for life after school and indeed for life after university. At the conference we worked together to develop strategies that can be applied in the classroom to improve learning.”

Over 560 schools offer Cambridge programmes and qualifications in Pakistan, including Cambridge O Level and Cambridge International AS & A Level.

LCWU: Prof of Emeritus and former Vice-Chancellor Dr Bushra Mateen (TI) has announced that Lahore College Associates (LCA), the old students’ organization of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), will set up a couple of new institutions for the welfare and empowerment of women.

She was addressing in oath taking ceremony of the newly elected body of LCA. Vice-Chancellor Dr Uzma Qureshi administrated the oath here on Thursday.

Dr Bushra said that an old home and a daycare center would be set up under the umbrella of LCA Model daycare center that would provide training to the staff so that they could get appropriate jobs in this emerging sector in Pakistan and abroad as well.

Dr Uzma said the reputation of any educational institution depended upon good results, co-curricular activities, environment and investments. “But there is one factor which only requires support and encouragement and brings strength and expansion to the institution’s reputation and progress and that factor is the alumni’s of the alma mater.”
