GUJRAT: Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana has stressed the need for quality education as well as moral training in educational institutions to bring Pakistan on a par with the developed nations so that the educated class can understand its social responsibilities.

He was speaking on the 4th convocation of the University of Gujrat here on Thursday where 5,000 of its graduating students and of the Nawaz Sharif Medical College were awarded degrees.

Mr Rajwana said the present government believed in fair governance. He said terrorism had been defeated on almost every front with the help of the armed forces, political parties and the society, adding that some sections always painted a gloomy picture of the state of affairs. He claimed the government’s economic policies aimed at wooing foreign investors were bearing fruit.

“We want permanent peace in the entire region and stability in our country as well as in the neighboring India and Afghanistan,” he said, adding the government believed in solving all the disputes with India through dialogue.

The governor emphasized the eradication of intolerance and negative politics from the country since they had already damaged the society a lot.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed also spoke. Vice Chancellor of the University of Gujrat Dr Ziaul Qayyum and the governor conferred degrees on students.
