GHALANAI: The National Book Foundation (NBF) arranged a book fair at the Ekkaghund Girls’ Degree College here to develop book reading among Fata girls.

Speaking on the occasion, Naveed Akbar, assistant political agent, said that knowledge and learning increased by reading books. He said that despite the era of information technology the importance of book reading could not be denied.

He said that tribal students had potential to read good books if they were provided the same.

Naveed Akbar said that availability of books on general knowledge and other subjects in Urdu and English at low prices at the fair would encourage students to develop the habit of book reading.

NBF regional director Murad Ali Mohmand told Dawn that they would continue to organise book fairs in the entire tribal areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that efforts were being made to promote book reading among Fata students through organising such fairs in colleges and schools.

“Book reading exposes one to new dimensions of communication,” he said.

Murad Ali said that book reading was a starting step for achieving big in life, adding that with the cooperation of the Fata Secretariat and the political administrations of Mohmand, Kurram and Bajaur agencies book fairs would be organised in the respective tribal regions.
