KARACHI: At least two devotees were shot dead while four others were hurt in an attack on a shrine popularly known as Astana Zinda Pir in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday.

Karachi-East Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Munir Ahmed Shaikh said four suspects riding two motorcycles opened fire indiscriminately at those present at the shrine, which resulted in the death of two persons and injured four others.

The police officer speculated involvement of extremist elements in the attack on the mausoleum.

Man killed in ‘sectarian’ attack

A general store shopkeeper was gunned down in a suspected sectarian attack in the North Nazimabad area of Karachi on Friday.

Authorities identified the deceased as Syed Irfan Zaidi, who was riding his motorcycle after closing his shop when armed pillion riders opened fire at him.

Feroze Shah, DIG Karachi-West, termed the incident as a targeted attack.
