QUETTA: Armed militants killed a policeman in Balochistan's Pishin district Sunday night, said District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Hayee Amir, while talking to Dawn.com.

Amir said armed assailants opened fire at a police constable in Surkhab area of Pishin, killing him on the spot.

"This seems to be an act of targeted killing," said the DPO. He said the police constable was riding a motorcycle after completing his duty, when he was targeted by terrorists.

The assailants escaped unhurt from the scene. Police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot as investigation into the incident began.

DPO Amir said a search operation had been launched in the area to apprehend the culprits, adding that some suspects had also been detained.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

In another incident, armed militants attacked a levies check post in Nasirabad area of Turbat.

The militants destroyed the levies check post and threatened the force's personnel. A levies official who declined to be named told Dawn.com that levies personnel had no weapons, but did not give a reason behind the anomaly.

The attackers fled along with a motorcycle belonging to officials, he said.
