Runs for Masood as Pakistan's practice match ends in draw

Pakistan's only practice match before the first Test against Sri Lanka ended in a dull draw as the Sri Lanka Board President's XI, set a target of 264, ended day 3 on 129/3 on Saturday.

Resuming the last day of the three-day match on 27/1, Pakistan scored 257 on the back of a sedate 69 off 122 balls by opener Shan Masood and a patient 48 by ODI skipper Azhar Ali. There were runs too for Younis Khan (35) and Asad Shafiq (31) as Pakistan looked to accelerate in a bid to force a result on the last day.

Leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who picked up five wicket in the first Pakistan, was again the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka Board President's XI. Dimuth Karunaratne, included Sri Lanka's Test squad, and Upul Tharanga hit fifties as SLBP finished on 129/3.

Pakistan will play three Tests, five one-day internationals and two Twenty20s on their 53-day tour of Sri Lanka.

The first Test begins on June 17 at Galle.

Once again Mohammad Haffez struggles mightly with the red ball. I'd say give him another test and if he's unable to make any significant contributions it's time to kick him out of the team like taufeeq umar was. Ahmed Shehzad looks very promising in tests just need to find him someone that truly can play the new ball. OR if Shafiq struggles then Hafeez should be played at no.6 like an all rounder is suppose to like Watson for Australia or Ben Stokes for England.

The irony is that we have all been so fixated by Pakistan's poor batting performances that we have failed to notice that the bowling has also plummeted to abysmal depths. Opponents like Sanggakara and Mathews will make mincemeat of our friendly bowling, especially since we will be playing in their own backyards. As it is, we have been neutralised by the absence of Saeed Ajmal but what is Waqar Younis doing? It's a sad state of affairs if he can't even coach the fast bowlers in the team.

@Iqbal Hafeez should only play tests. He os old now.. Meanwhile we need aggressive openers in ODIs, Mukhtar should be given a chance.

Sir Mohammed Hafiz's inconsistent batting continues and will be a big problem for Pakistan. Time to move Azhar Ali to open the batting and slot in Haris Sohail or Shoeb Malik in place of Hafiz at number 3. Thanks
