COLOMBO: Pakistan batsmen, except for opener Ahmed Shehzad and veteran Younis Khan, could not impress on the opening day of their three-day warm-up match against a Sri Lanka Board President’s XI as the tourists were dismissed for a modest 247 at the Colts Cricket Club Ground here on Thursday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan lost opener Mohammad Hafeez (3) and Azhar Ali (12) to be 39-2, but a partnership of 113 for the third wicket between Shehzad and Younis saw them recover to 152-2.

Both batsmen made half-centuries with Shehzad scoring a 110-ball 82 with eight fours and one six and Younis 64 off 78 balls with five fours and three sixes.

However, following the dismissal of Younis and Shehzad the rest of the Pakistan batting disappointed as they succumbed to the leg-spin of Jeffrey Vandersay who ended up taking five wickets.

In only his fourth year of first-class cricket the SSC spinner had the wickets of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq and Shehzad amongst his victims.

Giving Vandersay good support was left-arm spinner Milinda Siriwardena who took two wickets.

By stumps the home team had replied with 44-1 having lost the wicket of Test opener Dimuth Karunaratne for a second ball duck when Junaid Khan trapped him lbw.
