LAHORE: A westerly wave generated light rain and strong winds in many parts of the country on Tuesday, keeping temperatures much below their normal value of the month.

Dark clouds, which were accompanied by a strong wind, covered Lahore in the late afternoon, producing light scattered rain. The sky was clear at 9pm but the impact of the rain was marked. Wind was soothing and weather pleasant.

The maximum temperature was 35.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum 23 degrees Celsius. The Met office reported below 40 degree Celsius temperatures all over Punjab because of the westerly wave.

It reported that Okara received 18mm of rain, Toba Tek Singh 10mm, Rawalakot 6mm, Garhi Dupatta 5mm, Jhang and Jacobabad 4mm each, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala and Kasur 3mm each.

It forecast rain, thunderstorm with a dust storm at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Islamabad, upper Fata, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Karachi) and Balochistan (Quetta, Kalat and Sibbi) in the next 24 hours (Wednesday).

Meanwhile, the Met department said the unstable weather conditions in the country were likely to prevail during the current week. The conditions were being caused by penetration of consistent north westerly flow of air. Therefore, dust storm with isolated thundershowers would lash the plain areas of the country till Thursday.
