HYDERABAD: The Intermediate (Class XI & XII) examinations in all four boards of the interior of Sindh — Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Larkana — got under way on Tuesday.

The Hyderabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) had constituted 22 monitoring and vigilance committees which caught 37 cheating and three impersonation cases on the first day when nearly 100,000 candidates took their first paper in 10 districts — Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Dadu, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Thatta and Sujawal.

The Mirpurkhas board conducted the exams in four districts where the monitoring and vigilance committees concerned caught 18 candidates cheating.

In Khairpur district, the Sukkur board held the first paper under a strict check on use of unfair means. The vigilance committees visited various exam centres and found 50 students involved in cheating.

The Larkana board conducted the intermediate examinations at 89 centres where around 60,000 candidates took their first paper. The centres have been set up in Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Mehar and Dadu.

The board has constituted 30 vigilance committees to check use of unfair means. According to the board officials, a total of 222 cases of cheating and 56 cases of impersonation were detected on the first day.

The highest number of copying cases (100) was reported from Larkana district, they said, adding that no such case was reported in Dadu district.

At most of the exam centres, candidates complained of power outages and inadequate arrangement for drinking water.

There were also reports of the late arrival of question papers at some centres. Candidates also faced hardship in taking the exam due to intense heat.
