THIS is apropos the article ‘Two conversations’ (April 19). The writer says: “…outcomes mattered the most. How the outcomes were attained was not really a dominant concern”.

And, it is true as well. People don’t bother as to who had delivered. They want results whether by an autocratic government or a democratic one.

These days, when you drive on Karachi’s roads, your imagination instantly goes to retired General Pervez Musharraf and Mustafa Kamal — the ex-president and the ex-mayor of Karachi. So many overhead bridges and underpasses were constructed in that era that the nuisance of traffic jams was resolved once for all. Now you could reach the airport from Mauripur within no time owing to signal-free roads.

Besides building these bridges and underpasses, Musharraf freed the country from the clutches of the IMF — an organisation of 188 countries. After him, the democratic governments again went into the fold of this organisation.

The public is interested only in delivery which is missing these days. If you talk to the people of Karachi these days, you will find them extremely happy. They say that criminals, extortionists, mobile phone snatchers, target killers and others have almost disappeared from Karachi’s roads.

The crime graph has come down appreciably. Everyone praises the Rangers. Why? Because, they have delivered.
