Pakistan's Maria Toor beat South Africa's Siyoli Waters in a hotly-contested final to win the 2nd Bahria Town International Women's Squash Championship in Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Maria, who hails from Waziristan, had defeated second seed Nadine Shahin of Egypt in the quarter-final before taking down Malaysia's Teh Min Jie in the semi-final to set up a clash with top seed Siyoli Waters in the grand finale of the event which carried a prize money of $10,000.
Spurred by the home crowd support, Maria overcame Siyoli 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 10-12, 12-10 after a high-octane 46-minute battle.
Maria, who put her name in the history books by winning the first ever women’s event in the Nash Cup and is coached by Jonathan Powers of Canada, claimed her third WSA title after her win Rawalpindi.

Great News but very sad that she did not get the kind of publicity she deserve.
State of sports in our country is worst than poor. We cant even finance our hockey setup.
I strongly believe that sports can drastically change the mindset of our morally dead citizens. I wish if government understand the importance of sports and invest on it. unfortunately they don't understand the importance of investing in education...forget sports.

Watched her quarter final and semi final. MARIA was not givin enough room for her opponent to play shots and was very physical on occasions. She was pretty unfair, especially in semi final. I must say Walter is much better player than maria

I have a dream! I have a dream that PK would be the champion of Asia and Islamic countries for women's rights, emancipation and equality. That strong women, intelligent that submit much to humanity would emerge in vast droves out of PK. It is possible if the political will is there, for now it is not it has only taken PK back 2 decades
