GUJRANWALA: The district administration and police got removed on Friday extra loudspeaker amplifiers from almost all mosques under the sound systems act.

The administration convened a meeting of clerics of all sects and directed them to remove extra amplifiers of mosques instantly except one for Azan and Juma sermon. Police later visited all mosques and removed extra amplifiers.

A number of prayer leaders criticized the drive in their Juma sermons on Friday. They opposed three-month jail and Rs25,000 fine handed down to prayer leader Haji Muhammad Akbar after a summary trial.
