THE picture in Dawn (Dec 28) showing Jamaat-i-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq with Christian children during a reception his party held at Mansoora in connection with Christian celebrations exhilarated and prompted me for this write-up.

Seeing a Christian child affectionately held in his lap, flanked by children of Christian employees at Mansoora with their cheerful faces, is indeed a manifestation of his love for humanity and the marginalised members of society such compassionate gestures by people of his calibre and erudition go a long way in bringing about harmony, tolerance and goodwill among members of a diverse society.

Let us all emulate this spirit for this is the need of the hour.
